Our equine surgery facility our equine vet practice consists of a large operating theatre, two padded recovery boxes and a surgical preparation area. This enables us to offer a full range of surgery under general anaesthesia when required, including emergency colic surgery.
We are one of the only clinics in the area to offer emergency colic surgery and full surgical facilities.
Anaesthesia is performed by one of our highly trained veterinary surgeons, using a full range of monitoring equipment. Our orthopaedic experts have access to the latest arthroscopic equipment to enable them to perform keyhole surgery where appropriate. We also have stocks in one of our treatment rooms, in which standing surgery is often performed under sedation and local anaesthesia. We regularly perform laser surgery for sarcoid and melanoma removal.
Any horse undergoing surgery of any kind at Avonvale Equine Practice will be thoroughly assessed by a vet prior to surgery and then carefully monitored post surgery to ensure a full recovery. Some standing laser sarcoid surgeries and dental extractions are performed as day cases. More in-depth surgical procedures usually require a few days of hospitalisation during which our experienced on-site team of vets and nurses will care for your horse, keeping you well informed of their progress.
