We offer Joint Measurement Board horse height measuring services at our equine vet practice in Warwickshire. Equine vet Naomi de Pennington is our official JMB Measurer.
If you need your horse or pony measured for the purposes of showing or competition, the Joint Measurement Board offer a national scheme for the measurement of the height of horses and ponies. The JMB is dedicated to the accurate measurement of relaxed horses and ponies, and JMB measurements are carried out in accordance with set guidelines.
Equine vet Naomi de Pennington is our official JMB Measurer at Avonvale Equine. Naomi takes pride in offering a calm, quiet environment so that your horse or pony can relax properly before undertaking measurement.
Horses should be brought in unshod with plenty of time to settle. Please bring the horse’s passport with you. It is vital that the horse or pony is trained to stand square and is used to being handled. In order to obtain an accurate measurement, the horse must be relaxed and able to hold its head in a natural, relaxed position.
Horses or ponies must not be under the influence of any prohibited substances, and can only be fed their normal food and water on the day.
Annual height certificates run from 1st January to 31st December and are issued to horses that are 4, 5 and 6 years of age or being measured for the first time. Life (or full) height certificates are issued to horses and ponies of 7 years old and above, that have previously held at least one annual certificate.
We recommend that any clients considering JMB measurement visit the JMB website to familiarise themselves with the rules. Payment needs to be made directly to the JMB before we can accept a booking for measurement.
